Credits and more credits

So, some of you may be wondering what the new credits system is about. I will use this thread to keep you updated on what can earn you credits and what will cost credits.

As of right now, posting a message (new thread or reply) will earn you some number of credits. You actually will gain more credits for longer posts. Sadly, this seems to benefit Sigurd the most, sorry everyone. Anyhow, some characters will not count. Please do not cheat. If you are quoting something from someone else, make sure it is in the [QUOTE] tags or else you will be penalized 25 credits each time you fail to do this. Ignorance will not be an excuse.

Other ways to gain credits:
-Officers will be given a salary of 10 credits every month. Remember, if you are an officer and you go inactive, you will be demoted.
-Those that have a birthday will get 25 credits + 5 credits for every year they've had a birthday on these forums. I have gone back to give those that celebrated birthdays this month (July) their credits, but will not go back further.
-Just for doing something on these forums, as simple as reading a post, can gain you 5 credits a week.
-Site Supporters will gain 100 credits per $1 donated. Those that have already donated should receive their credits sometime this week. It is a time consuming process that has not been automated yet.

There are other small ways to gain small amounts, but you may not notice it until you've done that action a bunch of times. Think of 1 credit as a dollar. I have some actions down to .01 credits per action. This is to prevent an over abundance of credits on the forum.

So, what can credits be used for?
-One thing you can do is use the credits to play Triple Triad. I don't have it all in place yet, but you will be able to use your credits to purchase cards. Sadly, I don't think they have a way to sell those cards yet, but I haven't look over the new version yet. Maybe they do.
-I am looking for a way to use the credits in the arcade. There use to be a way to do that in the older version of the forums, but I have not seen it on these yet. Once found, I will open the entire arcade to everyone and you will be able to play any game at 5 credits a pop.

gah! i am losing credits because my posts are too concise! at this rate i will never get my mob slippers and will have to continue using my mop underpants. :/

started at 15 posted and went up to 16, then went down to 11, 12 as of this post....

after i update dkp probably be about 6 :p

weird the credits are jumpy. go to 22 then refreshed without posting and it went to 23. then posted last dkp and it went to 28. refreshed and it changed to 23.

must be one hell of an algorithm. (not to be confused with algornac or former vp algorobot)

Well, I know editting a post can change the number of credits you earned from that post. So...I guess it is possible your credits jumped around, but it shouldn't have anything to do with a refresh. Not sure though. It produces a log, so I will take a look.

Thanks Alephen. I think I see a problem in the code. I am temporarily turning off credits gained by character count. You will only be able to gain credits for posting until the problem is fixed.

I've made some more adjustments to the credit calculations and we'll see how these go. Now you will notice that the credits will be displayed at two decimals. This is due to the fact that more characters in your message mean more credits. Keep in mind, that if you copy/paste something, you need to use the QUOTE tag found above the box where you type your message. I will have to hit you with a penalty if you quote something without using that.

The arcade modification is still be worked on. I have something else that will probably be done sooner though. I hope to get it out this weekend, but I have another test due Sunday. :(

I am sending out credits to those that have made donations in the past. My recommendation is not to spend them all b/c I will be adding a lot more things to spend them on. Up to you though, enjoy!

All donations have been entered. Please give the forum about 1 hour to process (by 9:30pm CST) all of them. If you do not receive credit for all your donations, please send me a PM and I will look into it. Otherwise, I will assume all donations have been credited.
