Dang, I know why you've been so exited about the game now Maus. So I've been doing lots of research and came across the video below in the forums. It's a shorter version, about 11 minutes, of your things you wish you knew before you played. They called it their top 10 and it's worth watching for anyone that is interested in playing.

If anyone is interested, I'll have a couple guest passes good for a week of play time for folks to test out the game. BDO is buy to play and is fairly inexpensive at $30 for the cheapest pre-order.

Thanks Maus, I watched them last night. Tenacious Gamers, the guild we teamed with in Skyforge, will be fielding pretty much a full guild in BDO. It may be worth checking out.

Checkout this link for a good launch guide.

Though at 256 pages long, it may take you until the start date to finish reading.

I am open to suggestions when server names are released. One thing I would like to state about that, is to avoid servers with the following guilds. It may take some doing to accomplish this, however i have some insider ppl who will let me know what servers these guilds plan to use.

FoE (Fist of Empire) Archeage guild i very much want to avoid
Risen (another trolly guild even during CBTs)
Good Squad (Same from ArcheAge and most of them where banned from archeage because of hacking/exploiting)

This is a really good article on sieges in BDO, its short quick read that will give you an overview.

    http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/g...e/10592/page/1

In terms of guild for SH, if we have less than a dozen people we may want to consider joining a guild. While many things can be done with under a dozen people, this game requires some dedication and commitment.

In all honesty this game isnt for casual players. i hate to say it and wish it wasnt so, however, casual players will get bored at end game. There is a dearth of PvE content at end game and the types of things there are all require a guild and several people to coordinate.

Sieges will not be enabled for the first few weeks, in order to give everybody a chance to level up at their own pace. I think this is a good thing and I feel this game will provide some good experiences for all types of people during the first few weeks. However, if you are looking for a game for months+ then be prepared to be involved with a moderately sized guild 30+ members and weekly commitments to sieges. The overview i posted above will give you a good idea of what that entails.

The guild numbers i mention anticipate that not everybody will be able to participate in sieges all the time. There is also crafting and tradepacks to do as well. There is a lot of background things to coordinate.

I played heavily during CBT2, primarily as a Witch, I got to level 32. For my style of game-play w/o doubt Witch is what I am going to Main. I loved it!

Black Desert classes are so unique that it is difficult to find a parallel to compare classes. It might seem initially they are same as any other but I don't feel that way after putting in 32hrs play time on witch.

The Witch/Wizard, only difference is gender, are in some sense your typical Glass Cannon. Witch has single target and AOE abilities. The witch class can easily take on elite mobs and large groups many levels higher. If you played then u may have seen the color gradient of mobs ranging from grey (well below level), to Purple which as near as i can tell is atleast +5 levels above you and potentially elite. The witch also has actual healing spells that affect her and party members. It can be difficult during the first 15-20 levels to be sustainable but after level 20, Witch really comes into her own.

At level 30 all classes get an ultimate ability, that is related to 1-3 normal abilities/spells but massively amplified. It charges up by killing mobs and then at 100% charge it replaces one of your skills, in my case Call Lighting, a single lighting bolt hitting 1-3 mobs. Becomes a Lighting storm with like 10-12 Bolts hitting dozens of mobs and for a like 4-5x more dmg. It is really great. BDO did a really great job at making the game feel immersive with skills. You truly cant experience it by just watching but only by playing.

One thing to note about BDO that separates it from like almost every other MMO is NO fast traveling or teleporting. Even if you die you only have a choice of self rezi (cash shop/loyalty shop item only), Rezi at a nearby node or nearby town. You don't get to choose it chooses for u. The entire world is persistent, even the semi-instanced housing, doesn't have a load screen it just seamlessly loads your specific housing/apartment. The world itself is MASSIVE, its scale is just so huge, it is primarily a very large continent surrounded by ocean with a few islands.

There are boats for fishing. I say boats because atm there are no "ships" just large boats. These are mostly for fishing and whale hunting. Fishing can be a nice way to afk, you can leave ur character logged in just "afk fishing" for hours. Whale hunting is a party exercise that takes several people and you may get raided/attacked during. Fish are for money or titles. Whales drop enchantment items. Something akin to the Kraken from archage also exists a Giant Blue Whale that when it spawns it tells the entire server. Expect those to be massive pvp battles. Loot for whales is determined by party with most DPS not tagging. i don't know alot about this aspect just what i learned from someone in game when i asked about it.

One major difference between this game and archeage is one, there is no persistent open world housing, one apartment building could have hundreds of ppl in it. Also there is no vehicle collision, so no blocking roads or w/e. also if you are attacked on the road u can be killed and have ur wagon/horse/donkey killed however, there is no benefit as trade-packs don't
"drop". They go to your warehouse. Plus the Karma system is a disincentive.

While there are many cry babies about it, wanting it changed so they can just PK however they want, there is little that Daum has done to change this. Some minor changes where made in the amount of karma penalty, a point system, but it is so tied to things in the game world its not something that they can eliminate. The most glaring example is if you are a jerk, you may not be able to even go into towns as guards will attack you onsite. NPCs will give you crappier prices for things or not even talk to you. GvG is where they want PvP focused and I am happy with that.

Additionally PvP isnt even enabled until you are level 45+.

I think thats about it. I am cautiously optimistic about this game.

sounds interesting, what is the purpose of housing. Just decoration, or can you store stuff? Can you invite others to come into your house to check it out?

How does farming(harvesting / growing stuff) work in comparison to AA?

It sounds like there is quite a penalty to just straight out PK someone, any reason to do it? I imagine there are PvP enabled zones where there isn't a PK penalty? I need to read more about the game, I know nothing :P

Housing has many practical purposes for crafting. Actually housing is required for for many crafts. Anyone can visit your house. Harvesting is done with various tools in the open world, there are also farms not sure how they work exactly except they are placed in the open world but are not accessible to normal people.

There are no specific zones that pvp is enabled or not enabled per se. There is a flagging system of some sort i dont exactly how it works but its not active until level 45. Random PK always has a penalty there is no free PKing unless u have negative karma from PKing yourself. You are able to defend yourself from PK for no penalty.
